Posting about a totally new different fandom!

Okay, so I have this curse. Every single time I get into a show that's currently in production, the minute I get really attached it seems like bad things happen. That's why there are a lot of shows where I watched the first season or two, and then stopped. And waited. And once the show was done and wrapped, THEN I felt like I could go back and watch it.

That's why I didn't finish watching Buffy until 2009. That's why I STILL haven't watched past season 2 of Supernatural. That's why I'm only JUST NOW watching Season 2 of LOST.

But a friend of mine got me hooked on "Community" and I love it soooo much. And now Season 3 is over and we're only getting a short run for Season 4, and Dan Harmon is leaving(!) amid lots of bitterness, and I still think Chevy Chase is a prick and I could watch the show without him... and...

I love this show so much. It's not exactly like anything on TV--although it's extremely meta awareness of TV Tropes makes it like EVERYTHING on TV but in a way that is beyond everything else ever. And that's why I love it. I love that it's unique and weird, and that it totally appeals to geeks like me. And now they're replacing Dan Harmon as showrunner because they want to take it in a more "mainstream" direction? Make it more appealing to the masses???

No. No. No! Bad executives!

I mean, yeah, I get that they need to make money on this, and that if it doesn't make money then it isn't worth them producing. And yes, the ratings have dropped (maybe because they insist on putting it in really bad timeslots? I don't know. I don't have cable or TV at all, and I have to get all my "Community" through HULU and Netflix.). But I want to get down on my knees and BEG them not to change the things that make me love "Community" so much.

Please do not stop doing TV-Trope-ic shows! My favorite episodes are the ones that are the most self-aware. The multiple time-line episode is one of the best things I've ever seen on TV. The Conspiracy Theories ep with the multiple plot twists. The bottle-episode that took place entirely in the study room (and gave us all the boys in their underwear, thankyouthereisagod). ALL the paintball episodes. The pillows vs. blankets episode with the historical documentary narration. The zombie episode! Gah!!!!!! I could go on and on and on and on.

Please do not change the characters! As annoying as it is, I love Jeff's speechifying and Annie's adorable nerdiness (though it'd be nice if they let her grow up a LITTLE). I love Britta's hypocritcal preachiness, and Shirley's turn-on-a-dime nice girl to badass mama. I love how sweet Troy is and Abed's quirkiness, and Chang and the Dean's overtop insanity. (I could live without Pierce, though I admit that the jokes about his stupidity and racism make me laugh--at him. Which is all I ever wanted out of Chevy Chase in the first place, cause I don't think he's very funny. My enjoyment of him is the same as I'd get at a dunk tank. I want to throw things at him and watch him flounder like a stupid-fish.)

Please don't make it more PC! Yes, I know that a lot of the show's humor is based on stereotypes (and sometimes ripping them apart). Yes, I know that they rely pretty heavily on Pierce's completely unconscious racism for humor, or poking fun at various religions. And I know that that doesn't always sit well with people, and sometimes, yes, the humor falls flat. But I really like that the show is so self aware of what it's doing, that it uses this bravery to TRY jokes like that, in order to deconstruct them.

Please do not make this another bland sit com.

Please do not cancel it after the short run Season 4.

Also, while I'm asking for things I know I probably won't get, can we please have like, five or more episodes where Jeff dresses in the magicians outfit from the episode "The First Chang Dynasty"? I really, really think that will improve ratings. Those skin-tight black leather pants, rippling abs, and the black fingernail polish... I'm totally with the Dean on that one.

Can someone PLEASE make me a GothPunk!JeffWinger gif?

It's by no means a perfect show, but it's an ambitious one and a lovable one as well. I think most fans agree about Pierce--he's the only one we don't love unabashedly. I wouldn't miss him at all if he was gone, to be quite honest. On the other hand, I'll miss the heck out Dan Harmon. I get the feeling he's a jerk irl, but he is this show, and it won't survive without him.

I just stared at those long enough that I realized he has a pierced nipple (right side, only visible in the gif on the bottom left). I think it's the combo of eyeliner and leather and black nail polish. I don't know why but my inner teenage girl is just flailing everywhere.

(I actually watched that episode with my friend, who happens to be a guy. He normally spends episodes drooling heavily over Annie, so it was nice to be able to turn the tables and just unabashedly lizard-brain over shirt-less Jeff.)

And I'm with you on the Dan miss-age. I get the feeling Joss Whedon isn't really a prince IRL either, but that doesn't mean that he isn't the soul of whatever show he creates. I've worked in theater long enough to know that sometimes the most creative people can also be the biggest jerks--but if they know what they want, if they have vision, if they turn out something amazing...you put up with the ego to some degree.

I love community so hard. There's just nothing else like it on television. I'm worried that loosing Dan Harmon as showrunner will make it not "Community" and I'm bitter that Whitney of all horrible things got a full season pickup!

Okay, so I didn't make this... I found it on communitythings.tumblr.com (the only tumblr I follow, and clearly the best one on the planet.)

But, there he is. In all his beautiful glory.

I love that you love Community. It is everything that is perfect and terrifying and shameful and glorious and fascinating about the world all at once. I don't know how I ever lived without it. Dan Harmon is a genius who took characters that, on their own, are rather annoying, selfish, and frustrating, and managed to bring them together and make them a family that the rest of us are jealous we aren't a part of. The news that they are replacing him breaks my heart.

Maybe it won't suck if they commercialize it a little bit. Maybe it will. We just have to hope for the best.

And maybe, in the meantime, we'll get some more chapters of Dust ( ;D ) to remind us that even in the darkest of timelines, fans will stick together behind the creators that no one outside their beautiful cult following could ever truly understand.
